Idaho is among the most zealous anti-marijuana states in the United States. In early 2019 House Bill 577 was passed which raised hopes for CBD-only legislation. However, at the level of the Governor's office and Senate, this matter is in limbo still.

Is CBD oil legal in Idaho? In this article, cbdoilpolice.com will be discussing what CBD oil is, what the two most common high and mixed CBD/TCH strains are, the legal status of CBD oil in Idaho, and how it can be legally purchased.

What is CBD Oil?

High-quality CBD oils may be extracted from both marijuana plants and industrial hemp. Generally, industrial hemp is a low-resin agricultural crop, which is cultivated out of pedigree seed, with almost 100 tall, skinny plants per square meter, and manufactured into a wide range of products. Drug plants are alternatively a horticultural resin-heavy crop, that is grown usually from chromosomally reproduced clones, with one to two plants per square meter, cured, clipped and hand-dried.

The Pennywise Strain

This CBD dominant indica strain shares similarities with Harlequin and Jack the Ripper. This is why it is named after the title character in a horror novel. The strain has four unique phenotypes, several of which look like finger sized buds, while the remainder appear more rounded. Coffee and pepper notes emit from the purple shaded flowers, with lemon and bubblegum undertones.

Because the therapeutic CBD compound is dominant, Pennywise is effective at treating arthritis, PTSD, epilepsy, symptoms of cancer and neurological problems. The visceral characteristics of Jack the Ripper are evident in the genes of Pennywise, as mood elevation and mental focus are heightened with a beautiful buzz. Pennywise blossoms within ten weeks and is suitable for outdoor and indoor gardens alike.

The Sour Tsunami Strain

This strain is well known, because it was the first to maximize CBD content, instead of THC volume. The levels of CBD it contains are said to be up to eleven percent, whereas THC is usually below ten percent. Lawrence Ringo (from the Humboldt Seed Group) bred this strain over several years of painstaking experimentation, mixing Sour Diesel with NYC Diesel plants.

The end result was a strain that is highly effective at treating pain and inflammation, without causing the dizziness associated with high volumes of THC. The sativa dominant Sour Tsunami hybrid blossoms within a couple of months, generating dense, green buds that have dark purple leaves. The buds smell of diesel, with a sweet undertone.

CBD Oil Laws in the State of Idaho

Idaho is among the fiercest anti-marijuana states in the U.S. In 2015, Governor Butch Otter became exclusive when he vetoed CBD-only legislation. However, the passing of House Bill 577 in 2018 by the House Health and Welfare Committee was viewed as a significant move forward until the Governor vocally rejected the bill outright.

As it currently stands, the situation has put the bill on the back burner until 2019 at least. If in the future the Bill is enacted, Idaho residents who are looking to use CBD oil for medical purposes will be required to register for a CBD registry card with the Idaho Board of Pharmacy.

Medical Marijuana in the State of Idaho

Idaho is one of just a few U.S. states where both recreational and medicinal cannabis is illegal. Also, since no official pilot medical program exists, having a medical certificate will not eliminate being punished for growing or possessing medical marijuana in Idaho.

Recreational Marijuana in the State of Idaho

So what can you expect in a state where even CBD oil is still pending legislation?  Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I hallucinogenic substance by the Idaho Uniform Controlled Substances Act. Possession of up to 3 ounces is considered to be a state felony that is punishable by a $1,000 fine or 1 year of imprisonment.

Where to Purchase CBD Oil in the State of Idaho

The farm bill federally legalizes CBD oil usage containing minimal amounts of THC. So you can buy CBD oil in Idaho, but online, since there are no brick and mortar shops in the state yet.

Conclusion

Even if you are a qualified patient in a different U.S state, you do not want to consume marijuana in Idaho. CBD-only legislation approved by HB-577) with a required registration program is currently pending approval by the Governor and Senate.

As expected, there are no retail stores in Idaho that specifically sell CBD oil product, except for a couple of vape stores. Therefore, if you are an Idaho resident, you should purchase CBD oil online since the 2014 Agricultural Act may give you the right to do so.
